I love this beetle. I goofed up a few things (I wasn’t paying attention..lol) especially the feet so I mine is hanging…lol one day I might redo that, but for now it still looks really good. Beautiful and fun to make! I may buy some and gift them to friends who have admired mine. I do a lot of bead projects, and I wanted to try something different. Those was perfect!
I just finished the beetle. It took me longer than expected because I didn’t make the frame for both the left and right wings at the same time and one was bigger than the other, so I had to make adjustments to make them both symmetrical. In the end I think it turned out well.
With this DIY beetle I watched the YouTube tutorial. It was more difficult than I expected. She made it look very simple. I hade to construct the first wing four times. That is due to my skill level, not the level of direction. I got better with each attempt at the first wing and got the second one done without issue. The supplies were great. Would have loved to have some written instruction on the wire, just to be sure I was using the correct one. I love it. Highly recommend.
Shipped quickly, packed well. If you’re a beginner to suncatchers I don’t recommend you start with this one. Just the wings alone we’re pretty hard. I went down to a 0.4 (26 gauge) wire for the wings, and it made it more manageable for me. Also, the beads were inconsistent in size so you have to accommodate for that. Not the sellers fault, manufacturers just don’t make perfectly size beads. Even the expensive ones can be off. There’s a lot of shaping and bending, which Emily does a great job showing you the ins and outs, but be patient. All of her tutorials are wonderful. Have made a few already. This was the first kit I purchased from her. Unfortunately, my crystal was broke, so my bug got a large crystal bead instead and with that I can hang it.

I really like these designs and definitely appreciate the time and effort it goes into making kits.... But the shipping takes longer than international shipping and it is confusing not calling the beads by their names...cone beads and bicone beads are two different things... Etc.
