This dreamy firefly suncatcher is inspired by the gentle glow of fireflies drifting through a summer night. Hang it in a sunny window and it sparkles by day; switch the light on and it feels like spotting a real firefly.

Level – Late Beginner.
Format – PDF, instant download.
Length – 28 pages, 81 photographed steps.

This is a digital PDF tutorial — NOT a physical kit and NOT a finished suncatcher. Nothing is shipped to you.

Want the beads and the wire too? My Firefly Suncatcher DIY Kit has everything cut, counted and ready — every bead, the wire, the light, the findings — and this same written tutorial comes free with it. So if you're already thinking about the kit, buy that instead and you'll get these instructions included.

You will need… (exact quantities and sizes are listed inside the PDF)
– 0.4 mm (26 gauge) gold wire — about 8 ft (2.5 m) in total, for the four wings
– 0.5 mm (24 gauge) black wire — about 28 in (70 cm) in total, for the body, head and legs
– One 12 mm amber pumpkin bead — the body
– One crystal light bead with loop — this is what makes it glow, and a small plastic LED light works just as well (it runs on LR621 batteries)
– One 8 mm red-purple rhinestone metal center with a stone border
– Two 8 mm AB aqua blue crystal metal centers and two 15 mm rainbow oval crystal metal centers
– 7 mm cone beads: 6 white, 2 orange
– 6 mm rondelles: 4 white, 2 turquoise, 2 cracked turquoise, 2 grass green, 2 yellow-orange, 1 black
– 4 mm bicones: 26 white, 22 dark purple, 8 pink, 8 black, 6 opaque green, 4 turquoise, 4 light purple, 2 grass green
– Two pink rose flower beads
– About 400 white and 30 black seed beads, 2–2.5 mm
– About 30 gold stopper beads, 2.5 mm
– Twelve 7 mm black tube beads — the legs
– Four 6 mm gold metal flower spacers and one jump ring for the light hook

Tools…
– Round-nose pliers
– Flat-nose pliers
– Wire cutters (an old pair of scissors you don't mind nicking will do in a pinch)
